Create Website - Free VS Paid Hosting - Which One is Better?
You finally decided after looking around on the internet to make your own website. Besides trying to name your new web site, people are faced with the decision of whether they should use free hosting and domain or pay for hosting (and use their web site maker). Even though it is a personal preference, you need to ask yourself; what will you be doing with this site? Is this for a short term or long term goal? Will you be treating it as a business or just for fun and your own personal use? If it would disappear one day would you be ok with that?
If you are creating a website using free software and hosting, it may put you at a disadvantage. You may find that the company you are using has no (or very limited) customer support. They may also (in the fine print) not let you put ads on your site or even worse put their banners all over your site and you can not delete them or move them to another location on a page. You may possibly find that one day you try to get into your site that you have built up over (possibly) a year or so and it is gone and the only way you will be able to access it is to pay some outrageous amount for the hosting. The company may go out of business and you may have no way to retrieve any of the information that is stored in their servers. All of your work is lost. Also with free hosting your domain name is so long most people may not be able to remember the name or find you again.
If you would be making a website into a business or you have a business offline and be bringing online, you really do need to pay for hosting. To have a business on the internet and not buy a domain name and have free hosting is not very professional. If you can't pay for a domain and hosting (very affordable now), then your business must not be worth much to you.
It may be a no-brainer when you make your own website whether you go free or paid but if not, this gives you food for thought if you do need to choose one over the other.
Heck, everyone wants something for nothing but remember, you get what you pay for.
